ABOUT EVORA
Évora is located in deeply in Alentejo region but also near Lisbon (130 km distance). Évora was founded by the Romans, but it was occupied by the Muslims for a long time, until the arrival of the Christians. They conquered the town and made it part of the kingdom of Portugal. World Heritage her historic center is guarded by roman walls, and it is between those walls that we may still find some traces of those times and lives combined with today’s life. During day time Évora provides several cultural places to visit and during night time we can choose between charismatic taverns, restaurants and bars. More information about Évora here.
TRAVEL INFORMATION TO AND FROM LISBON
It´s possible to choose travelling by train or by bus
The train to Évora departs Lisbon from the Gare do Oriente station, which is located in the Parque das Nações to the east of Lisbon. Oriente station is connected to the red metro line and this continues to the airport. Gare do Orient is modern train station with excellent facilities and is the recommended departure station. The second station in Lisbon is Entrecampos, this station is close to the Lisbon Bull ring but not directly connected to the metro network.

There are more bus services between Lisbon and Évora and the last bus departs much later than the last train. The bus station is located in Sete Rios, it’s a red building behind Sete Rios rail station and Jardim Zoologico metro. There are buses to Évora almost every hour.

ABOUT THE VENUE FOR THE MINI-CONFERENCE
University of Évora is a public institution of higher education, founded in 1559 (closed in 18th century and reopen in 1979). Today, the university is organized in 4 departments (Arts, Social Sciences, Technology Sciences and Health) offering 43 courses leading to Bachelor’s degree, 85 courses leading to a master degree, including 2 and 3 are integrated masters Erasmus Mundus and 34 courses leading to a doctoral degree. Their schools are located in several historic buildings within city walls, nearby and away from them. Mitra’s Polo is located deep into the montado landscape at 12 km from Évora. The Mitra’s Estate has about 285 hectares and is composed by several buildings for teaching, research and agricultural extension with classrooms, conference rooms, computer laboratories, workshops, management park, winery, horse-riding center and veterinary hospital, among others. At the estate, there are several historic or about nature hiking trails. Located on Mitra´s Polo the Institute of Mediterranean Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (ICAAM) is a University of Évora Research and Development (R&D) Unit created in 1991. ICAAM main goal is to promote excellence in research on Mediterranean agro-ecosystems, following a multidisciplinary approach (integrating researchers from several scientific areas: Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Biology, Crop Science, Physics, Chemistry, Ecology, Economics, Landscape and Territory, Soil Science and Veterinary Medicine) and a strong cooperation with national and international research groups and local producers and professional organizations. ICAAM aims to contribute to the knowledge, innovation, development, sustainability and competitiveness of agro-silvo-pastoral Mediterranean systems.
ACCOMMODATION
Évora provides several accommodations, with different characteristics and prices. With a good value for money, we suggest two different type of accommodation:
Évora Inn – Chiado Design is a guest-house located in the center of Évora, a few steps from the main square. Restored in 2010, Évora Inn’s building has 4 floors each of them with walls decorated with old tapestries. All rooms have a unique decoration, and are equipped with wireless internet, cable television, private bathroom and air conditioning.
Hotel Solar Monfalim is an ancient Renaissance palace of the 16th century, located in the historic city of Évora. Converted into an Inn in the 2nd half of the 19th century, Solar Monfalim kept intact its history and architecture, despite successive adaptations that has been through over the years. Today, has 26 rooms equipped to ensure maximum comfort of its guests. Guests can breakfast buffet with the Alentejo traditional products.
HOW TO GET FROM ÉVORA TO HERDADE DA MITRA
The University provide transportation from Évora to Herdade da Mitra and back to Évora again.
